JHS Show Choirs
Joplin High School is proud to offer three co-curricular audition-based show choir classes for students in grades 9-12. Each show choir is accompanied by a live band and stage crew, and competes at several regional competitions per year.
Touch of Class
Touch of Class is Joplin High School’s treble performance choir. This ensemble features the same high-quality requirements and expectations as Sound Dimension but allows for younger students to develop their skills in show choir. Students develop musicianship and proficiency in ensemble performance, study of appropriate literature, vocal techniques, sight-singing, and choreography. Repertoire includes selections from popular music, jazz standards and Broadway musicals, as well as classical literature. Students also gain experiences in stagecraft, costuming, makeup, and expressive movement. This group is highly demanding, with multiple extracurricular rehearsals and performances, as well as a financial investment. Auditions are held at the end of each academic year and rehearsal commitments begin in the summer.

Sound Dimension
Sound Dimension is Joplin High School’s advanced mixed performance choir. Designed for students who are highly advanced/experienced in their performing, this group pushes students to develop musicianship and proficiency in ensemble performance, study of appropriate literature, vocal techniques, sight-singing, and choreography at the highest level. Repertoire includes selections from popular music, jazz standards and Broadway musicals, as well as classical literature. Students also gain experiences in stagecraft, costuming, makeup, and expressive movement. This group is highly demanding and is designed for students with multiple extracurricular rehearsals and performances, as well as a financial investment. the summer.

Men of Note
Men of Note is Joplin High School’s new for 2025 bass performance choir. This ensemble provides a space for young men to experience the joys of performing and show choir with their peers in a less high-stakes environment while still developing their musical skills. Repertoire includes selections from popular music, jazz standards and Broadway musicals, as well as classical and standard choral literature. Students also gain experiences in stagecraft, costuming, makeup, and expressive movement. This group is highly demanding, with multiple extracurricular rehearsals and performances, as well as a financial investment. Auditions are held at the end of each academic year and rehearsal commitments begin in the summer.
