Social Studies
Three
units of social studies credit -- including American History and one
semester of government -- are required for graduation from the Joplin
School District for the class of 2010 and beyond.
SOCIAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT
The
Social Studies Department consists of fourteen instructors. Course
offerings consist of Advanced Contemporary Issues, Advanced Contemporary
Issues Enrichment, Advanced World Geography, Advanced World Geography
Enrichment, Advanced World History, American Government, American
History, Civil War, Contemporary Issues, Contemporary Issues &
Leadership, Contemporary World Affairs, History Through Film,
Independent Enrichment, Intro
to Psychology and Sociology, Modern Warfare, Sociology, Understanding
the Law, We the People, World Geography, and World History. For the
college bound student Psychology, U.S. Government & Politics, U.S.
History, and World History are offered as Advance Placement classes, and
American History, government U.S. State & Local, Psychology, U.S.
History 1492 - 1877, U.S. History 1877 - Present are offered as a Dual
credit class.
