JHS COLOR GUARD 
 
The JHS color guard received best auxiliary in their class this past weekend at the Maple Leaf competition.


FINAL DAY FOR SENIOR PHOTOS

November 13,2017 will be the final day for seniors to get their photos taken for the yearbook.  If you have not gotten your photo taken you need to go to  http://seniors.legacystudios.com/joplin-high-joplin-mo/ to make your appointment.  Remember this will be your last chance - DO NOT MISS IT!


SPEECH AND DEBATE
Speech and Debate brings home more wins!


Samuel Peterson - 1st place Lincoln Douglas and 4th place Domestic Extemp Speaking.

Annaliese Vorhees - 6th place Domestic Extemp Speaking.

Megan Petersen - 3rd place Original Oratory.

The following made it to either Semi Finals or Finals:
Julian Garrett - Semis in Radio
Chloe Bonds - Semis in Informative Speaking
Cora Wesley - Finals of Student Congress Debate
Hailee Hile - Finals of Student Congress Debate
Zac Cope - Finals of Student Congress Debate

These students are working very hard and we are so proud of them!

Applications are open for the ACT Student Champion Award! The ACT Student Champion Award recognizes one student in each state who is tenacious and persistent, no matter the challenge, and is prepared for life after high school with a goal in mind and plan in place. 

ACT Student Champions receive a $500 non-renewable scholarship, certificate, plaque, and state-level recognition. 

Please encourage students in the graduating class of 2018 who have taken the ACT who fit the following criteria to apply: 
  • A student who has overcome challenges and can articulate education and career actions
  • Students must have a composite ACT score of a 22 on a single test date or a 3.0 or greater on a 4.0 scale
  • Preference will be given to underrepresented and/or first-generation college students.
Applications can be found at www.act.org/readinesschampions. Applications are due December 31, 2017, and champions will be notified on or before April 2, 2018. If applicants are under the age of 18, they must complete this form in addition to the application.

THE GAUNTLET
On Monday and Tuesday of next week, October 23 & 24, JHS will be hosting the Freshman Gauntlet. Freshmen will go through various activities with their Transition class to promote teamwork, build community, and learn how to deal with adversity. All freshman received a reverse waiver last week. If you wish for your student to remain in class and NOT attend the Gauntlet, please have your student turn their form in to the freshman office on Monday morning by 8:30.

SHOW ME CROWDER DAY

Attention Seniors:  

We will be taking seniors to Show Me Crowder Day on Wednesday, October 25.  It is a day for students to experience opportunities at Crowder College. The day will include a campus tour, department expo, academic program and free pizza for lunch.  Busses will leave from Franklin Tech at8:30 a.m. on the 25th, and we will return by 1:00 p.m.

 

There is a sign up sheet in the counselors' office. Please sign up early.  Deadline for signup is October 23rd.    


JHS MARCHING BAND
Congratulations to the marching band placing seventh out of thirteen bands in finals Saturday at the US Bands Southwest Missouri Regional in Branson. The color guard won outstanding color guard in their class in prelims. 

We have one more festival on Saturday with the Maple Leaf Parade. The band performs in prelims at 4:30pm on Saturday October 21st. The festival takes place in the new stadium at Carthage High School. We would love to see a big crowd cheering us on.

JHS COLOR GUARD

Last Saturday Oct. 14, at the US Bands competition in Branson, the JHS color guard received "Best Guard" in their class during prelims. The JHS marching band will march in the Maple Leaf parade this Sat. Oct. 21 starting at 9am. Then the band will perform at Carthage High School's new stadium at 4:30pm. Come cheer on our Eagle Pride marching band.

TRICK-OR-TREAT FOR UNICEF

Trick-or-treat for Unicef

 

 

Key Club has gone door-to-door, with Halloween costumes on, to collect donations from our community to help eliminate neonatal and maternal tetanus in third world countries. We have collected over $200 but our goal is $400 so we are still collecting money! Please let us know if you would like to donate!

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY PARK CLEAN-UP

National Honor Society met up at Leonard Park on Saturday to rake leaves and pick up trash. We had a blast making our city more beautiful!
